Re: Pay Attention
For this task, we were asked to go for a walk and take pictures - then to do something with those pictures later. As a group, we went and took pictures together. However, I wasn't looking for anything in particular. Instead, I thought I'd just take pictures and try to make something of it later. This was because I didn't have a preconceived idea of what to take images of. I can assume other people went through the same thing.
The collection of images I took during the walk:

Obviously, I couldn't use all of the images. I had to pick some, and I noticed two patterns in my picture. Architecture and People. The thing is, I had to decide which type of image to pick and what to do to said images. This would purely come to personal preference, but then I had an idea...
The selected images I decided to use:

The idea was the focus on people and colour. Specifically, the use of desaturation. I had this in mind because I noticed all the greys and dark colours that the environments had, but the people had more interesting colours. I decided to gather some references for inspiration and reference, and found these images rather interesting.
The inspirational images I found:

I then went on to actually create the images. I simply created the pictures by creating a duplicate layer over the first, desaturating the second layer, and then erasing parts of the second layer that I wanted to have colour. This created the effect I wanted to achieve.
While putting together the sequence of images, I found that removing the white boarder I had blended the images together. This was due to the fact that all of the images, par some small things, were in black and white - having the white borders also separated them. Since they were from the same walk, it felt more fitting to have them be connected.
The final result:
